A New School Building

From The Rockport Journal, June 22, 1900

One to be erected on the East End of the College Lot

The Rockport school board went before the town board last night and secured permission to issue not to exceed $5,000 in bonds to provide money to build another school house.  It is to be a four room brick building of modern architecture and will be located on the east end of the college lot.  One room will be occupied by the sixth grade now at the college building, two rooms will be occupied by students from the Seminary, and one room will be used as the superintendent’s office.

The schools have been crowded for some time and the building is said to be indispensable now on account of the large increase in the population of the town, the last enumeration of school children showing a gain of 202 over last year.

The town board will meet this evening and pass the ordinance authorizing the bond issue.  The building is to be ready for the use at the beginning of the next term.
