December 4, 2018

The Spencer County Historical Society met on Tuesday, December 4, 2018, at The Rustic restaurant in Rockport, Indiana.

While waiting for the meeting to begin, a member passed out a quiz with items concerning Spencer County.

The meeting was called to order by the president at 6:45 PM with 18 members and six guests present.

The minutes from the last meeting were read and approved.

The treasurer’s report was given.

The president gave several announcements:

·         The Bicentennial Books have sold out.  More books have been ordered and should be available soon.

·         A member has updated the Dale book and donated a copy for our Genealogy Room.

·         The Historians of the Year for 2018, The Spencer County Leader and The Spencer County Journal-Democrat, will be presented their plaques at the Chamber of Commerce meeting to be held Friday, December 7, 2018, at 9:00 AM at the Chamber office.

·         The Lincoln Statue, donated to the county anonymously, will be dedicated at 1:00 PM Monday, December 10, 2018, in the Spencer County Courthouse Rotunda.  A member will present his plaque honoring the first sheriff of Spencer County, David Edwards, his ancestor, also at this time.

A member reported the plaques for Little Pigeon Creek Baptist Church and Baker’s Creek Church have been ordered.

Since no other business was brought forward, the member gave the answers to the quiz.

Then it was time to eat.  Everyone enjoyed their meal and the fellowship.

Before adjourning the meeting, there was a drawing for two door prizes.  Two members had furnished the quiz, the table centerpieces, and the door prizes.  The centerpieces were taken home by the members.

A motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting.  The motion carried.  The meeting adjourned at 8:35 PM.

There will be no meeting in January, 2019.

The next meeting will be February 5, 2019, at 6:30 PM in the Rockport Library Genealogy Room.
