April 5, 2011

The Spencer County Historical Society met on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 in the Rockport Library Genealogy Room.

The meeting was called to order by the president at 7:00 PM with seven members present.

The minutes from the last meeting were read and approved.

The treasurer’s report was given.

A member told about the search for the 1950 Rockport Journal at ProQuest/UMI.  He was referred to the Indiana State Archives and then to the Indiana State Library.  No one had a microfilm copy of the paper.  The president had also done some research and was unable to find a copy.

The president stated that the J. B. Chrisney book had been repaired and was ready to be picked up at the Evansville Bindery.  He said that he was also going to get the 1950 Rockport Journal that had been loaned to the Society and check with the editor for permission to have it copied.

The president read a letter from a person whose family was buried in Spencer County.

There was a short discussion about the upcoming Historian of the Year banquet.  The Society will be decorating the Community Center the morning of April 16, 2011.  A member had picked up the plaque and the nameplate inscribed for The Lincoln Club of Southern Indiana.

The Maturity Journal subscription for the Genealogy Room will expire May 1, 2011.  A motion was made and seconded to renew the subscription.  The motion carried.

A member mentioned that he had given information to the Spencer County Chamber of Commerce concerning the “cell phone tour” which the Warrick County Chamber of Commerce was instituting. There would be a small sign at an historic location with a number to call on your cell phone.  You would then hear a recording describing the location.  One of the locations was Boner Bridge.

A motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting.  The motion carried.  The meeting adjourned at 8:15 PM.

There will be no meeting in May.

The next meeting will be June 7, 2011 at 6:30 PM in the Genealogy Room.
