The president introduced the guest for the evening.  Kendell Thompson is the Superintendent at the Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial in Lincoln City , Indiana.  He has been here since March, 2010, having transferred here from Arlington House at the Lee Memorial in Washington, D.C.  He told the Society about some of his plans for the Lincoln Memorial and about the upcoming 25th Annual Lincoln Colloquium to be held on September 17-18, 2010 at Lincoln City.

Pictures were shown of the completed refurbishment of the David Turnham marker in front of Heritage Hills High School at Lincoln City.

The president had contacted Cultural Resource Analysts, Inc. concerning the building of the 900 acre river port but hadn’t received any reply from them.

The secretary read several letters that she had received with membership renewals.

A member said that he will be attending the Commissioner’s meeting concerning the Huffman Mill Bridge.  The member and the Society would like to have the commissioners use the smaller grant to recable the bridge and make it a walking bridge.  He said the Friends of Huffman Mill Bridge would like to see the same thing.

A member mentioned the article he saw in the county paper about ordering a Lincoln Bicentennial Book which would have documentation of the details of the two-year celebration of Abraham Lincoln’s 200th birthday.  He was going to check with the Library to see if they were going to order a book.

A member reported that he had talked to Grandview Aluminum Products about remaking the signs for the Boner Bridge.  He told the Society of the price that he had been given.  A motion was made and seconded to purchase the two plaques at the price quoted.  The motion carried.  A member is going to order the plaques and talk with GAP about how to remount the signs.

A member of California inquired about the cemetery records of New Hope Baptist Church in Newtonville, Indiana.  The president is going to reply to his inquiry.

A member brought up the possibility of the Society reprinting the cemetery records books which were printed in 1987.  There would be 23 years of updates that would need to be made.  After much discussion, it was decided to table the idea for time being.

A motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting.  The motion carried.  The meeting adjourned at 8:15 PM.

The next meeting will be October 5, 2010 at 6:30 PM in the Genealogy Room.
