The president called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM with 12 members and one guest present.

The news reporter read the report from the local newspaper as the secretary was absent at the June meeting. There was no meeting in July due to the holiday.

The treasurer's report was given. Dues are now payable for the next year.

It was mentioned that the library had said that copies of The Spencer County Leader from 1999 to 2006 were available to be microfilmed. It was also mentioned that the Genealogy Room is missing microfilmed copies of The Rockport Democrat from 1971 to 1980 and The Rockport Journal from 1950. The president was going to get a price quote for copying The Spencer County Leader.

Another discussion was about getting highlight markers imprinted with the Historical Society's name to give away at the library. The last group that had been purchased is depleted. A member is to check on this and get a quote for 200 highlighters.

There were two books that had been reccommended to be purchased by the Genealogy librarian. A motion was made and seconded to purchase both books. Motion carried.

A letter was read from the boy scout who was working on the old Rockport Cemetery. He stated that the project was not yet finished.

A member had gone before the County Commissioners to talk about the Huffman Bridge and getting some kind of grant to help on restoring the bridge.

It was mentioned that they are still working on Boner Bridge. They are having some problems, but they are not supposed to change the integrity of the bridge.

A member has been attending meetings on the upcoming 2009 Lincoln Celebration. Suggestions have been made and expanded on at each meeting. Several activities have been planned. It is hoped that the Historical Society can be a partner in some of these activities.

The Society came up with several ideas of their own to help celebrate Lincoln's 200th birthday:
1. A reenactment of the flatboat race.
2. Schools drawing pictures of Lincoln's time in Spencer County.
3. Schools writing essays about Lincoln's life in Spencer County.
4. A 2009 calendar that has drawings of things concerning Lincoln's time spent in Spencer County with important dates in his life listed throughout the year.

It was asked if the fair plaque which the Society had purchased several years ago was mounted at the new fair site. It was stated that the plaque would be mounted when the second building had been completed at the new fairgrounds.

The election of officers for the 2006-2007 year was mentioned. A motion was made and seconded to keep the same slate of officers. Motioned carried.

A motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 8:30 PM.
