Spencer County Historical Society

March Notes

March 2, 2004

The president called the meeting to order with 12 members present at the South Spencer Middle School.

There was a presentation by a board member of Access Spencer County. He showed what was available for the world to see about Spencer County on the ASC web site. He also showed other web sites of historical interest that he developed. He finished his presentation by showing the new Spencer County Historical Society web page that he had recently developed.

The news reporter read what was put in the paper about the last meeting as the secretary was unable to be at the meeting. There was one correction on the item concerning the purchase of a new computer and scanner as the old ones were broken. Only the scanner was unable to be repaired. The old computer will be available for patrons to use in the genealogy room for research.

The treasurer's report was given.

There was more discussion about the Historian of the Year banquet. The president had contacted the living honoree about his selection and he was very pleased about being chosen.

Tickets and programs for the banquet will be printed by two of the members. A motion was made and seconded to pay them $10.00 for their expenses.

The president was in the process of finding a speaker for the banquet.

There was more discussion on the April 15 Charles Brame Lincoln program. Arrangements have been made for him to stay at the Rockport Inn. He had also mentioned that he would like to tour the Lincoln Pioneer Village as it will be having its grand re-opening April 15 - 17.

The next meeting will be Tuesday, March 30, 2004 in the Genealogy Room of the Rockport Public Library at 6:30 PM.

The meeting adjourned at 9:05 PM.

There will be a workday on Saturday, April 10, 2004 for decorating the Courthouse in preparation for the Charles Brame progam.
