Below are images of the covers of the books that the Spencer County Historical Society have for sale. Included is a brief description of each book. There is a link on this page for an order form for the books. It is in the form of a PDF file. As of November 5, 2013, shipping and one book price has increased. The Historical Society has a paperback book of all the Society newsletters from 1986 to 1999. This book is huge--measuring over one inch thick and containing 424 pages. A limited number have been printed and are available for sale. Contact Darrell Stephens at 812-686-8428. The cost is $20 plus $10 shipping if needed. This hardback photo book contains 277 pages and over 800 captioned photos of the county's early businesses, schools, churches, sports, agriculture, river traffic, military, town scenes and much more. The cost is $49 plus $8 shipping. It can be purchased from Steve Sisley at 4410 E. State Road 70, Grandview, IN 47615. All of the cemeteries in the county had their tombstone inscriptions read in 1986. From this project, three volumes were produced in 1987. This CD is a historic tour of Rockport, Indiana created December, 2003 from an earlier tape version. It includes a map to aid in following the tour. The History of Warrick, Spencer, and Perry Counties, Indiana from Goodspeed, 1885 is a reprint in hardback. It is considered the "bible" of Spencer County History. Items included in the book include geology, Indians, organization, law, towns, military history, schools, churches, and biographical sketches. The 1968 Rockport-Spencer County Sesquicentennial book was published in celebration of the 150th year. It is a soft cover item that includes the history of communities in the county. Many old photos are in the book. The Missing Chapter in the Life of Abraham Lincoln is a hardback written by Bess V. Ehrmann in 1938 and reprinted by the Spencer County Historical Society. It includes a number of articles, episodes, photographs, pen and ink sketches concerning the life of Lincoln in Spencer County between 1816-1830 and 1844. Lincoln and His Neighbors is a softback book written by Bess V. Ehrmann in 1943 and reprinted by the Historical Society. It has sections about Lincoln in Rockport, Josiah and Elizabeth Crawford, the Gentry Family, Shadrack hall, the Brooners, Colonel William Jones, and David Turnham. The Minute Book of Little Pigeon Creek Baptist Church is a softcover reprint of the original book. The book covers activities of the church from 1816-1840. The original book is in the Illinois State Historical Library. This book is the only original written document of the time the Lincolns lived in Spencer County, Indiana. This book has been reprinted and the new updated edition contains a history of the church. It has a better binding than the old reprint. The index was scanned and the names may be a page or two from that which is indicated. Hoosier Ancestors Scrapbook 1986-1991 includes Volumes I and II. It is a softcover book compiled by the Spencer County Historical Society. It is a collection of Hoosier Ancestors articles that appeared in The Journal-Democrat. The column came from old newspapers and clippings. Hoosier Ancestor Scrapbook Volume III is a continuation of the above volumes. It includes old articles that appeared in The Journal-Democrat from 1992 to 1995. The Atlas of Spencer County Indiana 1879 Indexed is a hardback book approximately 10 inches by 14 inches. It is a reprint made possible through the joint sponsorship of the Spencer County Historical Society and the Spier Spencer Chapter of the DAR. It contains maps of the state and county, plats of the towns, portraits of local people and many illustrations. When Lincoln Went Flatboating from Rockport is a softcover booklet written by Bess V. Ehrmann. It contains a historical pageant of the Lincoln Family in Spencer County. There were two performances on July 4th, 1930--4:00 PM and 8:00 PM. Sandy Creek Landing Greets the Lincolns is a spiral bound reprint of C. T. Baker's 1931 articles concerning the community of Grandview, Indiana at the time the Lincolns came to the area. The Spencer County Interim Report is an inventory of structures and historic sites in Spencer County. It was published by Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana in 2001. It is a catalog of architecture in the county and contains many photos of buildings. |
